Air Glaciers over Leysin

There’s an Air Glaciers base here in Leysin and yesterday they had an open day. Part of that was a quick trip around the area in one of their helicopters. In this case an Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama which is one of sixteen Lamas operated by Air Glaciers here in Switzerland. The Lama was originally designed for the Indian armed forces to operate in hot/high conditions and the model holds some impressive records being flown from an altitude of 7,500 m and achieving an absolute altitude record of 12,442 m.

I’ve made the photo’s into a slideshow so they should be showing below right now, there’s some controls to pause, back/forwards etc and clicking on the images should go to a static version.

Taking off from the heliport it’s a couple of minutes to summits of famous Leysin Tours which knocks a comfortable few hours of the time it takes to walk particularly next week when the lifts close and we’ll have to walk all the way!
